Hair today

I've been going to the same hairdresser for 27 years.

I have frizzy, unmanageable hair. In 1978, a co-worker with similar hair came back from a lunchtime haircut with her hair nice and smooth. I asked who did her hair, and she sent me to "Ron." Since then, Ron's been my guy. He has a magic blow-dryer (or I have a really unmagical one).

Over the years, Ron has moved to various salons, and I've followed him around. Unfortunately for him, I usually get my hair cut just once a year, just before Stamford. "If every customer were like you, I'd be on the Bowery!" he said.

Example of Ron's work: http://www.crosswordtournament.com/2005/photos/christensen4/1523015-r8-021-9.htm (on right).

Occasionally a special event will warrant more frequent visits. Ron has seen me through "Jeopardy!", weddings, bar mitzvahs, and school reunions. So yesterday, I surprised Ron just 3 months after Stamford, in preparation for my high school reunion tonight. The weather was humid, so I pinned my hair back immediately after leaving the salon.

Today, I took my hair down, and I swear one side looked longer than the other. I showered, and it still looked longer. I re-parted, and still no change. Finally, I called the salon - Ron's off on Saturday!

Rather than have an unknown person fix it, I took matters into my own hands (right, instead of an unknown professional, use a completely inexperienced klutz). I gingerly pulled on the offending piece, snip, pull, hack. Oops, now the OTHER side looked longer. Snip, snip, snip. STOP!!

I guess it's as good as it's going to get, but I'm not sure if I made things worse. Maybe I'll treat myself to another trim before the con.
