In going to the tournament in Brooklyn, I'm going to my ancestral home. I was born in Maimonedes Hospital and first lived in "the Breukelen" on Montague Street in Brooklyn Heights, not far from the hotel. This was my father's old bachelor apartment, and we have baby movies of the magnificent Manhattan view (way before there ever was a World Trade Center). It was a one-bedroom, too small for 3 people, and not long after my birth we moved to a house in Flatbush (where we were soon joined by my sister) and later to Great Neck.

I haven't seen that first home in over 20 years. If the weather's OK, I'll walk over there at some point.
