Time Event
Loom and gloom
I still haven't started my taxes. I seem to have a vested interest in always ruining my birthday. I inevitably think I'll need to file an extension, and then end up doing them in time. It's not the last minute yet.

I'm barely into "Primary Colors" but managed to finish Beth Gutcheon's "The New Girls." Having gone to a suburban Jewish high school in the late '60s, I couldn't completely relate to the story of a WASPy girls' boarding school in the early '60s. It was OK, but not gripping. Once I finish "Primary Colors" I'll start on the ARC I'm reviewing for First Look.

Due to taxes and "Wordplay" travel (Philly next week, Boston the week after), I turned down a crossword proofreading job and recommended an NPLer. I did tell Dell to go ahead and send more cross sums to test-solve, even though they're due 4/24. I love cross sums. I just did a 100-puzzle St. Martin's Kakuro book; for pleasure, not as a job. I also finished Nucky's "longest puzzle," much of which I did between rounds at Stamford. Excellent, as expected.

Taxes. It's the process I dread, not the result. I usually get a large refund since I tend to overpay estimated taxes. Financial records are in decent shape, though I need to update Quicken with statements received after mid-January. Maybe tomorrow.

Another thing looming is COBRA expiration 7/1. I E-mailed the agent (who also works with Will) who got me insurance last time I was on my own, but he hasn't responded. I'll call him if there's no word by May. I fear health insurance could cost almost as much as my rent. I just did my lease renewal, which also takes effect 7/1, and it's going above $700.
Those wacky celebs, two months ago
I'm about two months behind on my celeb magazine reading, so I'm just now reading Star of 1/30 and seeing that:

1) Gwen Stefani is extending her LAMB clothing line to infants. She says, "Babies have nothing to wear, so I am in the perfect position to rectify that." Does she mean babies come out of the womb naked? Or that before she came along, there were no clothes made for babies?

2) TomKat claimed on the Ellen DeGeneres Show that they might name the baby Ellen. Perfectly good name. Or, if it's a boy, they'll also honor Ellen by naming him Dellen. Dellen?

The ink is barely dry on accounts of Eminem remarrying Kim in a lovely, moving ceremony in a Michigan mansion when I now hear oops, forget that, it's kaput again. (I may be behind on mags but I do see gossip on the Web.)

And what happens with Millionaire now that Meredith is taking over at Today? (Oh right, this does not affect me. But I'm still curious.)
