I did a Google book search on my name without quotes and it unearthed a Congressional document stating that I worked in Senator Javits' New York office the summer of 1971 - and made $143.50. FOR THE WHOLE SUMMER. OK, it was 2 afternoons a week, but still.

I went to the laundry room to leave "An Unmarried Man" on the book exchange shelf, and a woman greeted me by name. She just saw "Wordplay" on TV. There I was, in movie star regalia of glasses and bathrobe and slippers, holding books by Jackie Collins and Robert Ludlum, greeting the public.
