Cinemania

There will be a lot of movie reports over the next month as I watch the Spirit nominees. First films up were both somewhat disturbing:

"Bubble," directed by Steven Soderbergh, about workers in a West Virginia doll factory. Using real people as actors, it fully captures the mood of dead-end, bleak, small-town America.

"Land of Plenty," a Wim Wenders portrayal of bleak America, this time mostly in LA. Michelle Williams is up an idealistic worker in a homeless mission, dealing with her uncle, a Vietnam vet trying on his own to keep the world safe. Our old pal John Sloss was executive producer.

In other news, Windows updated Internet Explorer and immediately ruined all my fonts. I got them back by turning off ClearType (which is not at ALL clear).
